DES4Horizon project is a comprehensive coordination and support initiative addressing the pressing need for improved capitalization of EU's research and innovation investments, particularly in the Widening countries (WDC). These countries often struggle to effectively leverage the research results from projects funded under the EU framework programmes, and thus our primary objective is to provide tailored support to WDCs beneficiaries, facilitating transformation of research outcomes into commercial outcomes. The core issue addressed by DES4Horizon is the disconnect between the research-focused mindset of academics and the profitoriented goals of SMEs. This disconnect has hindered the capitalization of EU investments in research and innovation. To overcome this, DES4Horizon assembled a consortium of partners with a strong track record in dissemination, commercialization, and exploitation support; and who are well-connected to existing innovation support networks, including the WIDERAnet, National Contact Points, and the Enterprise Europe Network. DES4Horizon aims to empower WDC beneficiaries by helping them understand and fulfill their dissemination, communication and expolitation commitments under EU programmes. Additionally, we seek opportunities for complemenatries under the wider community funding, such as cohesion policy programs (e.g., ERDF, ESF), the Recovery and Resilience Facility, and Reform funds. Close collaboration with the European Commission ensures that DES4Horizon remains aligned with EU policies and is positioned to provide data and evidence-based recommendations. In summary, DES4Horizon project addresses the critical need to enhance capitalization of EU research and innovation investments, particularly in WDCs. By providing tailored support and fostering collaboration between researchers and SMEs, DES4Horizon aims to unlock the potential of research results and drive innovation, ultimately contributing to the global competitiveness of the EU.
