Transforming Food Systems for Climate Mitigation in Europe (LIFE – Meals4Climate)

Požadovaný rozpočet: 1.999.459,52 EUR

LIFE – Meals4Climate focuses on dietary change as a powerful but underused climate mitigation lever. Food systems generate about one third of global GHG emissions, and shifting toward plant based diets can significantly reduce emissions and land use. The project operates in Czechia, Belgium, the Netherlands and Portugal, combining large scale citizen engagement, professional training, procurement reform and sustainable finance mobilisation. Campaigns and the Veggie Challenge app will drive measurable increases in plant based choices, while micro credential training will equip chefs, nutritionists and public institutions to deliver climate friendly meals. Pilot reforms in schools and municipalities will strengthen procurement standards, and new investment platforms will mobilise finance for climate friendly food innovation. A robust MRV methodology will quantify climate benefits and support replication. Expected impacts include measurable dietary shifts, stronger governance frameworks and contributions to the EU Climate Law, the –55% target for 2030 and the 2050 climate neutrality goal.

Standardised Clean Energy Transition Model for European Hotels (Hotel55)

Požadovaný rozpočet: 2.050.600 EUR

Hotel55 supports the clean energy transition of the EU hotel sector by creating a Standard Operational Model (SOM) that guides hotels of different sizes through a structured decarbonisation process. The project co designs TRL9 technology packages for small, medium and large hotels, develops AI tools to minimise energy cost per guest per night, and prepares a rollout strategy for interoperable technologies. A dedicated investment planning methodology helps hotels access public and private financing, while online learning content supports audits, installation, maintenance and day to day operations. A key innovation is the use of an Azure Digital Twin based on the RealEstateCore ontology, enabling high quality modelling, easy replication and integration with additional market services. Strong dissemination and stakeholder engagement will target Austria, Czechia, Hungary and Slovakia, where 100 hotels will adopt the SOM during the 24 month project. The ambition is to scale the model across the entire EU hotel industry within five years after project completion, fully addressing Scope A of the call.

OPuntia for ENvironment and LIFE (OPEN LIFE)

Požadovaný rozpočet: 2.233.356,46 EUR

Objectives of OPEN LIFE proposal are: select the best opuntia cultivars that can accumulate high quantity of proteins as well as require low water and labor input; develop the best transformation method, e.g. fermentation and extrusions, to produce animal food from cladodes and fruit by-product; test new irrigation methodologies to optimize water consumption; test nutritional properties of transformed opuntia forage both in lab and on animals; and extract essential oils and polyphenols from seed and peels. The last to be used as human food additives. By testing different species and corresponding cultivation techniques it will be demonstrate which cultivar offers the best characteristics, in terms of nutritional value, input of water and labor. The second objective is to develop a method to transform opuntia biomass in a forage with a standard water content. Nutritional properties of the new forage will be tested in lab by using standard techniques and by feeding animals. To achieve the goal of whole plant utilization and valorization several methods will be evaluated in lab for the extraction of oils and valuable compound from fruits by-products (seeds and peels). We propose to develop new production systems and reduce negative impacts on the environment while increasing yields of forage. Cacti plants required low-input effort in terms of farming, water and fertilizers, while with appropriated modification could results in high quality forage and metabolites. The expected impact is the improvement of local products and farming systems and propose a business model for small farmers based on the holistic use of opuntia spp. crops. Project results will include methods of cultivation and transformation of opuntia plants along with a full characterization of animal feed that will impact commercialization of cacti-derived food, feed, nutraceutical and cosmetic field.
