Center of Experimental Research of Blood Circulation Disorders and Organ Replacement in the Institute of Clinical and Experimental Medicine (CEVKOON)

Requested budget: 82.461.000 CZK

The goal of the project is investment in the laboratory equipment in the way that research team can start work on research hypotheses in the field of blood circulation disorders and organ replacement in the implementation stage of the project, and then to transmit these outputs into practice. Applying organization possesses newly built laboratories which will be equipped with necessary instrumentation in frame of the project, but scientific and research activities will be delayed without financial support. It is only one-staged project and the 6-months stage will cover administration of tenders and implementation of investment in the instrumentation. The support provided from the Structural Funds is necessary for the start of work of CEVKOON center, because without such support the research activity would be significantly delayed as the applicant would be forced to seek alternative which probably would not cover costs for all necessary instruments.

Center for the Research of Metabolic Syndrom (CENTRUM MS)

Requested budget: 19.761.000 CZK

The project aims to build CENTER FOR THE RESEARCH OF METABOLIC SYNDROM within the Institute of Endocrinology for the research of disorders such as obesity, cardiometabolic risks, diabetes mellitus type 2, dyslipidemies and hypertension which are parts of the metabolic syndrome (priority of European research). This research depends on exact diagnostic tests. Possibility to offer advanced therapies in clinical practice is conditional upon investment in clinical laboratory background which will enable not just center´s effective functioning but also strengthen connections among research teams and partner worksites. The main activity of submitted project is technological investment in new instrumental equipment of the Institute of Endocrinology. This instrumental base will enable building of clinical experimental site and hence also complex interconnection of the teams in the field of molecular genetics, proteomics, determination of hormones, biofactors and signal molecules in clinically characterized probands focused on the research of metabolic syndrome.

Infrastructure for Light Nanoscopy (NANOPL)

Requested budget: 19.331.479 CZK

Submitted project aims to build technical and logistic infrastructure for light fluorescent nanoscopy for the purposes of acquiring, sharing and processing of image data in biomedicine, biotechnological disciplines and material science. There is not such type of equipment connected to pan-European networks Euro-BioImaging and ELIXIR in the Czech Republic so far. It will enable scientists from applying organization (Faculty of Life Sciences of Charles University) and cooperating organizations (e.g. partner of project of Jaroslav Heyrovsky Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Czech Academy of Sciences) to produce excellent scientific results, which will consequently find their place in international research projects. Moreover, biomedicine and biotechnology are disciplines which have considerable innovative potential in the future. The project plans to purchase two super-resolution microscopes, a room in applicant´s premises will be reconstructed for their installation. Basic logistic infrastructure must be built for connection to European networks. Newly purchased equipment will supplement already functioning microscopes, which, however, must be adequately modernized.

Applicant: Charles University

Laboratory of Stable Isotopes (LSI)

Requested budget: 19.997.000 CZK

Submitted project aims to purchase modern laboratory equipment of the Faculty of Life Sciences for industry-oriented research of stable isotopes. Mass spectrometers and apparatus necessary for their functioning will be purchased in frame of the project; they will be placed in the buildings of the Faculty of Life Sciences of Charles University, in particular in the Laboratory of stable isotopes (LSI).

Applicant: Charles University

Center of Applied Confocal Microscopy (PRAKOM)

Requested budget: 19.917.000 CZK

The submitted project plans to equip and modernize instrumental equipment of the Faculty of Life Sciences for industry-oriented research. Its implementation will result in the creation of the Center of applied confocal microscopy of the Faculty of Life Sciences of Charles University in Prague, which will focus mainly on research of viral infections and possibilities of their prevention, research of cell transformation and of spermatozoa. Equipment by a specialized confocal microscope will enable industry-oriented research and creation of one job position in research and development connected with qualified instrument operation. Direct knowledge transfer in industry will take place in frame of created research partnerships with industry in the stage of infrastructure operation.

Development of Infrastructure for Husbandry of Genetically Modified Rats and Mice in the Institute of Clinical and Experimental Medicine (PEM)

Requested budget: 4.601.000 CZK

The main aim of the project, in accordance with specific goals set in the Operational programme Prague Competitiveness (OPPK), is to enlarge and modernize infrastructure for husbandry of genetically modified rats and mice at existing Center of Experimental Medicine (PEM) within the Institute of Clinical and Experimental Medicine (IKEM) for the purposes of biomedical research in the field of cardiovascular, transplantation and diabetologic medicine. Thanks to this investment, the project will achieve above all excellent research in the field of cardiovascular, transplantation and diabetologic medicine and subsequently to eventual reduction of occurrence of particular diseases among Czech population. The project is intended primarily for scientists, but indirectly also for patients who are concerned about the obtained knowledge and innovations most of all. The project will be implemented without partner.

Research Diabetological Center of the 2nd Faculty of Medicine of Charles University in Prague (DIACELL)

Requested budget: 33.202.000 CZK

The aim of the project is investment in instrumental equipment enabling establishment of the Research diabetological center of the 2nd Faculty of Medicine of Charles University in Prague. Creation of the center will cause connection of preclinical and clinical disciplines enabling complex research in the area of diabetes prevention and treatment. Cooperation with the University Hospital Motol and the Czech Diabetological Society will consequently enable transfer of knowledge from research to clinical practice and hence faster engagement of the research results into the patients´ treatment. Investment stage of the project is planned for 6 months from October 2010. It means the only stage of the project will be focused on implementation of tenders, installation of apparatus and eventual training of applicant´s employees.

CLIP Leukaemia: Mass Cytometry Cell Analysis (CLIP+)

Requested budget: 52.586.000 CZK

The task of the project is acquisition of unique and new technology of mass cytometry for currently best cell analysis laboratory working by cytometry method in the Czech Republic. The technology will enable deeper understanding of cell phenomena (e.g. during reversal of blood cells to malignity – leukaemia) in their full context. It will enable development of relatively new discipline “Systems Biology”. Their sense is thus a support of research infrastructure of the 2nd Faculty of Medicine of Charles University, which is tightly connected with diagnostic in Motol University Hospital and, as a consequence, with the treatment of patients of this hospital. Nowadays it already enriches research and diagnostic laboratories in Prague as well as out of Prague by its international and national activities (cooperation, lecturing and teaching, development of research and diagnostic instruments).
