Management and Media Training of Workers in the Management of Biomedical Research and Development in IKEM (IKEM-MBA and media training)

Requested budget: 492.221 CZK

Impulse for this project preparation was the need of significant improvement of knowledge transfer from biomedical research to clinical practice, the need of wider involvement of private companies in research activities and also the need to improve communication concerning results of research with a wider public. Another strong motive for project implementation is the effort for improved management of biomedical research which shall increase its effectiveness, bring economic efficiency of processes and improve relations and communication in the workplace. The project aims to create a coherent system of postgraduate education of researchers of the Experimental Medicine Centre as a part of structure of applicant - the Institute for Clinical and Experimental Medicine. The project creates a basis containing classical long-term education of 5 selected researchers in management training (MPA) and 5-term studies of media and communication. These forms of long-term studies will be preceded by internal training of 12 members of the target groups on foundations of economy for the purposes of learning about the issue and finding out motivation for the above mentioned comprehensive studies. The main intention of the project is to get 5 specialists who will be, beside their indisputable research abilities, also experts in the field of manager and media skills. The applicant is aware of the fact that “speed courses”, often superficial, for the wide group of researchers, cannot change current situation of relatively bad management of research and translation of knowledge from the biomedical research into clinical practice. The applicant prefers complexity of education for a few specialists who will help with significant shift of development of translational medicine. The project intends to improve the management in the biomedical research (to increase its effectiveness), to improve dissemination of research results among wide public and to clinical practice, and thereby to increase prestige of IKEM and consequently of the Capital City of Prague as a center of research activities.
