AI Empowered Surgical Tool Monitoring and Skills Development for Safer Clinical Practice (ANGEL)
Požadovaný rozpočet: 1.272.540 EUR
ANGEL introduces an integrated, AI driven solution for monitoring surgical and medical tools across their entire lifecycle—from storage to intraoperative use—to significantly enhance patient safety and operational efficiency in hospitals. By combining clinical data, computer vision and advanced imaging analysis, the initiative aims to eliminate retained surgical instruments, reduce human error and streamline workflows by relieving medical staff from manual, time consuming counting procedures. The project is grounded in rigorous validation and real world feasibility to ensure that the technology can be seamlessly integrated into clinical environments and deliver measurable improvements in surgical outcomes. A comprehensive training and skills development programme equips early stage and senior researchers, as well as industry professionals, with interdisciplinary expertise spanning computer vision, data science, artificial intelligence, imaging, video processing and hospital telemonitoring technologies. Practical experience is strengthened through international secondments and cross disciplinary mentorship, ensuring participants gain hands on exposure to clinical, technical and regulatory challenges. A coordinated network of local and consortium wide training activities reinforces experiential learning and supports the emergence of professionals capable of leading innovation at the intersection of AI and clinical practice. By establishing a robust framework for real world integration, ANGEL sets new standards for surgical tool monitoring and contributes to safer, more efficient healthcare systems.

Strengthening Research Management Excellence in Life Sciences Across Europe (REMALISTIC)
Požadovaný rozpočet: 2.000.000 EUR
REMALISTIC enhances research management capacities in Life Sciences by addressing the complex coordination, procedural and interdisciplinary challenges inherent to Drug Discovery and Development, where scientists, non scientists, end users, policymakers and innovators interact from molecular design to patient level therapies. The initiative implements all activities defined under Area 6 of ERA Action 17, focusing on building a strong, sustainable Life Sciences Management Network that connects leading oncological, biological and chemical research specialists across Germany, Hungary, Czechia, Romania, Greece and Bulgaria. A key objective is to attract and integrate talented early career scientists into a structured training pathway that develops research management skills, interdisciplinary understanding and cross country exchange of best practices. REMALISTIC aims to register and engage researchers working in Life Sciences—starting with cancer detection, investigation and treatment—and to ensure that at least 50 external EU researchers join the newly established network. Through collaborative training, skills development and professionalisation of research managers, the project strengthens the capacity of widening countries to participate effectively in European R&I ecosystems, supports alignment with ERA priorities and contributes to a more competitive, interconnected and professionally managed Life Sciences research landscape in Europe.

Accelerating Research Uptake and Innovation Capacity in Widening Countries (DES4Horizon)
Požadovaný rozpočet: 3.197.000 EUR
DES4Horizon strengthens the ability of beneficiaries in Widening countries to turn EU funded research results into real economic and societal value by addressing long standing gaps between academic research cultures and the market driven needs of SMEs. Many organisations in these countries struggle to capitalise on outcomes generated through EU framework programmes, which limits the overall impact of European investments in research and innovation. To overcome this barrier, the project brings together a consortium with strong expertise in dissemination, commercialisation and exploitation support, closely connected to networks such as WIDERAnet, National Contact Points and the Enterprise Europe Network. DES4Horizon helps beneficiaries understand and fulfil their dissemination, communication and exploitation obligations while identifying complementarities with other EU funding instruments, including cohesion policy funds, the Recovery and Resilience Facility and reform oriented programmes. Close cooperation with the European Commission ensures alignment with EU priorities and enables the project to provide evidence based recommendations for improving research uptake. By bridging the gap between researchers and SMEs, DES4Horizon enhances the ability of Widening countries to leverage EU investments, unlock the potential of research results and strengthen Europe’s overall competitiveness.
