Counter Hate Speech through Online Campaigns for Young People (COURAGE)

COURAGE delivers a set of online campaigns addressed to young people aged 9-21 aimed to increase the awareness on how the use of certain vocabulary can lead to fall pray of online hate speech narratives. With the goal to scatter the binary worldview proposed by hate speech narration, 3 campaigns will run in 6 EU countries supported by 7 CSOs, sustained by the efforts of research centres, Universities and a wide range of supporting partners to maximise the effects.A solid juridical and sociological research phase aimed at understand the penetration of hate speech online and offline in the target countries and how the intersectionality among different hate speech narratives could be afforded.At the same time, a clear identification of the specific features of the audiences that are involved in the key messages’ creation through laboratories is planned.Other key actors of Educating Communities (EC) are mapped and engaged in training and informative sessions through an holistic and multi-level approach.The contents are produced following a flexible and user-led methodology taking into account the specificities of local contexts and capitalizing on previously identified needs.The online campaigns are expected to directly reach at least 3000 young people and involving other actors of the EC.Physical sustaining actions will contribute to awareness raising and maximization of the impacts.The monitoring of the impact and quality of the actions is assured through a dedicated WP.The mainstreaming follows a multi-partner approach and a high level of dissemination is expected also through the activation of an Ambassadors network.Sustainability and exploitation of the project’s results is assured as well and includes a focus on policy achievements, building synergies with equality bodies, human rights institutions and Public Authorities at national and EU level. In all the phases of the project, gender equality issues and non-discrimination procedures will be taken into account.
